I once had a girl, or should I say, she once had me

Guess What.
No plugs today, just a special story. So about a month back, Malach asked a favor. He wanted to create a Googlebomb. He asked a bunch of you to take the phrase world's most dangerous bug and link it to Fat Bug as so: world's most dangerous bug. And then put this on all the webspaces you could find, myspace, websites, forums, etc. Well it worked. Got to Google and type in world's most dangerous bug, then hit the I'm Feeling Lucky button. Voila! Keep it up!

You are listening too . .
A personal fave, Norweigan Wood, off of Rubber Soul, by the Beatles.

So we begin.

Rubber Soul marked a departure for the Beatles. Highly influenced by folk, Rubber Soul is one of the greatest albums of all time. Highly inspirational in it's own right, Brian Wilson has stated that this was the main inspiration for Pet Sounds. Pet Sounds of course went on to inspire the Beatles's Revolver and Sgt. Pepper. This album marked the beginning to the most creative part of the Beatles discography. Rubber Soul, the next album Revolver, and the next Sgt. Pepper, you have the Beatles at their high point over basically a 2 year span. The Beatles were about to change, subtle at first, and become what would eventually be known as the greatest band of all time.

One of the issues this album suffers from, like much of their early stuff, is a marked difference between the UK and the US versions. Extremely popular songs like Drive My Car and Nowhere Man, were not on the US album, in favor for more folky songs. Nowadays the UK album is considered the standard.

This album, runs quit a gamut, from songs like Drive My Car and If I Needed Someone which are more like their early stuff, and experimental stuff like The Word, and Girl, which were becoming more surreal. A definite music shift to more guitar, a fuzz bass; some of the earliest examples of the latter. A definite maturing in lyrical content;, less sappy love songs in favor of more songs about emotion, and loss. In additon, songs not having to do with love and relationships.

Also surprisingly, there are no number hits off this album, but the two ep singles release with Rubber Soul, Day Tripper and We Can Work It Out (a really amazing song in itself) both hit number one.

A broadened sound, influenced by Bob Dylan, and the Byrds, there were also recording innovations by the Beatles and George Martin; they had begin playing with tape speeds, compressed music instruments (a pre-cursor to psychedlic), and exotic instruments.

Norweigan Wood is especially ground breaking for the time ('65). Lyrically, it is one of their first that in antagonistic toward women, and relationships, and is the first known pop/rock song to use a sitar. It marked a beginning interest in Eastern Spirituality, meditation, and thought, especially for Harrison who eventually became extreme proficient with the Sitar. The album also featured two Harrison songs, and a Lennon-McCartney-Starkey compositon. The exotic instuments, the new recording methods, and the enigmatic lyrics of this album breifly forshadow, what was to come.

Amazing album, a must own, again consider one of the best of all time.

I don't need your Civil War.
Wow, someone in the government is getting something right a bit. If you look at the definition of a Civil War, Iraq easily fits it.
