We have moved on to the "worst" album of the bunch Bossanova. At the time it was released I agreed. But similar to the Beastie Boys second album, Paul's Boutique, it took me a number of years to realize how advanced much of the music is on this album. You will see after we go through this, how it plays into their final album, which is pretty amazing.
This song is Dig for Fire, another Pixies fave of mine.

Good Kitty! OK Story time. Malach had a cat when he was a young child named "Pussy" (yeah Mom and Dad have a similar sense of humor to Malach). Well Pussy, was about the toughest cat I ever seen. Could be very nice, but if he (yes it was a he) was in that mood, he could give you several stiches. This cat was loyal. One time, we were playing football in the yard, and this huge loose dog runs in, grabs the football and runs around the yard with us chasing it. Here come Pussy to the rescue, off a 15' porch, buries his claws in the dogs back, rides the dog for a few seconds ripping away at it's flesh, dog drops the ball, and runs off. This cat was so tough, it would fall asleep in the middle of the street, right between the dividing line, and swipe at cars as the drove by.

you know, Murk and I used to debate the value of those last 2 pixies albums for days. and you always came up. he brought me back to them (i had started with bossanova as a kid, then discounted it and the next when i heard the first three) and i do so love all of them. agreeably, bossanova is the worst, but that's like saying 'oh, this foie gras isn't as excellent as the $10,000 plate'
I agree, I find now, it was a bit ahead of it's time, and love album now.
The last two Pixies albums were too pop for Hobbs and Malach. Let me just state for the record that I would rather listen to these two albums than 99.99999% of anything else that's ever been recorded.
I think you misunderstand, I love the album, at the time it was released, I was real unsure about, but looking back, this album was pretty innovative and Tromp Le Monde was a mix of this and Bossanova.
As for Pop, only somewhat . . . the influence of UFOs and such started here, and some heavy musical and lyric experimentation

Murk, you soggy pantsed fool, of course this album is better than most of what exists out there. But, it is still the worst of the 5 pixies albums. Again, thats like saying 'oh, Murk, the blow job you gave me last night was much better. What? Murk, come on, swallow before you speak."
